Infill Score Roadmap

Case Study: Staten Island

Staten Island, NY - Case Study
The first planner to test drive the BETA version of the Infill Score SMART INFILL ROADMAP Tool was Abrom Shepard, a planner from Staten Island.  Representatives from NGO partners in California (Local Government Commission) also used the tool for San Rafael and Fresno on our launch day.
The tools are divided into two 7 minute modules (Planning Roadmap & Implementation Roadmap) where users may choose from 15 strategies.  They select their top 3-5 strategies in each module and then may easily review and select from 7-9 potential actions from a drop down list, or add their own.
If they need a refresher, or would like to review the 30 strategies first they can easily do so online.
In about 15 minutes local civic leaders, planners and economic development specialists may create their own DRAFT plan for further refinement and discussion.  The team at Buildbrite then helps to assemble an easy to read desktop published report to share with others.
We recommend that teams generally think of an appropriate number of strategies and actions that they will be able to focus on and complete over 24 months.  This timeframe provides enough time to write and receive grant funds and/or attract private investors and developers to the community.

Taking Action!

The mission behind Buildbrite is to help communities take action and remove obstacles to implementing their plans.  Too often our plans sit on shelves and are not implemented or activated because it is often difficult to know where to start.

Once communities have completed the self assessment and have calculated their score they are able to access the free Roadmap Tools to quickly establish priorities, policies & actions.
